We live
by the name Christian yet we are so unlike Christ. This dilemma is
noted today for being the leading cause of unbelief. When people
look at the “church“they see hypocrites and contradictions. In this
song by one of the most influential and serious Christian artists in
contemporary Christian history this said state of the church is
brought to light. The bottom line is that God has called us His
children, His church to be His hands and feet, His ambassadors of
reconciliation empowered by His spirit to proclaim His good news. (Matthew
28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-21) It is therefore our duty and
privilege to continue Jesus’ ministry of love. When He walked the
earth he ministered everyday, going where the people were and
showing them the love and righteousness of God. When He ascended
into heaven and left the earth His apostles and their disciples
continued His work. Why do we fail at doing the same thing? It is
because we get caught up in this life. We must remember this
world is not our home and everything in it is worthless in
comparison to knowing and walking with God and Jesus the Christ
whom he sent. (John 17:3 and Philippians 3:8) Therefore, let us
search our hearts, repent of the sin we get so easily entangled in
and focus on Jesus our Lord. We must live for Him, we must lose
our lives for His sake or we will lose everything and forfeit
our souls to hell. (Hebrews 12:1 and Luke 9:23-24).
In closing consider our
calling as Gods ministers of His love to the lost and dying world
and relate it to our brother Keith’s song lyrics and the following
passages of scripture:
Matthew 25:39-50; James 1:27 and 2:14-26

"Asleep in the Light"
Lyrics and
Music by
Keith Green
From
the Record: No Compromise, Track #5.
Do you see, do you see, all the people sinking down,
Don't you care, don't you care, are you gonna let them drown,
How can you be so numb, not to care if they come,
You close your eyes and pretend the job's done.
Oh Bless me Lord, bless me Lord, you know it's all I ever hear,
No one aches, no one hurts, no one even sheds one tear,
But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds, and He cares for your needs,
And you just lay back and keep soaking it in, oh, can't you see it's
such sin?
Cause He brings people to your door,
And you turn them away, as you smile and say,
God bless you, be at peace, and all Heaven just weeps,
Cause Jesus came to your door, you've left Him out on the streets.
Open up, open up, and give yourself away,
You've seen the need, you hear the cry, so how can you delay,
God's calling and you're the one, but like Jonah you run,
He's told you to speak, but you keep holding it in,
Oh, can't you see it's such sin?
The world is sleeping in the dark,
That the church can't fight, cause it's asleep in the light,
How can you be so dead, when you've been so well fed,
Jesus rose from the grave, and you, you can't even get out of bed,
Oh, Jesus rose from the dead, come on, get out of your bed.
How can you be so numb, not to care if they come,
You close your eyes and pretend the job's done,
You close your eyes and pretend the job's done,
Don't close your eyes, don't pretend the job's done.
Come away, come away, come away with Me, My love,
Come away, from this mess, come away with Me, My love .
