Shane and Shane - Names' Sake

Back to Sermons in Song>>>

"Names' Sake" is a song about seeking the face of God, glorifying Him and seeing His will take place in our lives. It is a song by Shane and Shane off of their album “An evening with Shane and Shane.” It is a song in tune with God's desire for us to seek Him and rejoice in His will for our lives. Moreover, it is a song specifically about seeking God’s will for our lives in relation to and through His Holy Spirit (who is God with us). It is a song which cries out for  God’s will to be done in our lives  through the presence of His Spirit in the fullest measure for His glory and renown.

1 Corinthians 12:4-18 and Colossians 1:1-14 supply us with a good picture of what biblical dynamics this song encompasses:

1 Corinthians 12:4-18 – this passage speaks to us of the Spirit’s role in empowering and gifting the believer.

4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. (Jesus)

6There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.

7But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

 8For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

9to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

12For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

14For the body is not one member, but many.

15If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.

16And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.

17If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?

18But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.

Colossians 1:1-14 – this passage refers to the Spirit’s role in increasing the believer’s knowledge of God and His word.

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

2To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

3We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

 4since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints;

5because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel

 6which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;

7just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf,

8and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.

9For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

 10so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously

12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

13For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son (Jesus),

14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

"Name's Sake"

Lyrics and Music by Shane Barnard

From the record: Psalms, Track #7.

I come to seek Your face
Holy Spirit wont You fall on us
Speak wisdom to Your people

Your saints
Fill us with the knowledge of you
Fill us with the knowledge of you

Overwhelm my heart
Overwhelm this place

With a passion for Your name
I need Your tender mercies
Holy Spirit wont you make a change

"For Your Names' Sake"

Three other songs off of Pastor Glen Kaiser’s CD’s capture the same zeal for the Spirit’s work in our lives and help us gain a fuller view of “Name Sake’s” message. Thus, I have included them. Meditate on all four songs in relation to the passages above and trust God’s Spirit to work in your life.

"Holy Spirit, move in me"

Off of the CD: No Greater Love: Glen Kaiser and Friends

Lyrics & music, Aracely Bock

Performance by: Glen Kaiser and Aracely Bock

Holy Spirit, move in me
Give me the eyes to see
My Lord more clearly
Holy Spirit, renew my mind
Unveil these roles I play
In my masquerade

Holy Spirit, make me new
Lead me in all I do
I offer myself to You
Take these feeble ways,
Test my anxious thoughts

Won't You take away my fear
I long to know my Father's heart
I need to know my Father's heart

"Holy Fire"

Off the CD: Throw Down your Crowns

Spirit come and fill us now
Wind and Holy Fire
Move upon, within, without
Lead to Your desire
Grant us knowlege of the Son

Will and Word and Thought be done
Worship Three and worship One
With the heav'nly choir

Praise to God and grace to man
Holy, Sovereign, Great I Am
Lord of Lords and Risen King
Healing mercy in Your wings

Son of Morning, Son of Man
Gift and fruit at Your command
Blessing promised, blessing planned
Spirit fill again
Spirit fill again

"Sanctuary"

Off the CD: Throw Down your Crowns

Make my soul a sanctuary,

Where You are; Take my heart

And touch with mercy, Morning Star

Every perfect gift comes from You

Glorify Yourself in all I do

Spirit fill me to Your pleasure
Take me Lord
Do Your will in fullest measure

Hold me Lord

Every perfect gift comes from You
Glorify Yourself in all I do

Jesus, precious Prince of Peace

Take me Lord
Through Your blood I am released
Holy Lord

Coming soon complete the story
Where You are
To the Father's grace and glory
Morning Star

Every perfect love comes from You
Jesus, glorify yourself in all I do
