Mercy Me - Word of God Speak

Back to Sermons in Song >>>

Word of God Speak” off the CD Spoken For is a song about growing in our relationship with God by sitting at his feet and learning from His word as the Holy Spirit teaches us. This week we will look at the story of Mary and Martha and see how it relates to this concept.

The first four lines of this song capture it’s heart and reveal to the listener that it is a song about hearing God speak. In the book of Luke we find a story which illustrates the importance of this desire, to hear God speak.

38 Now as they were traveling along, He (Jesus) entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.

39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word.

40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me."

     41 But the Lord answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;

42 But only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

~ Luke 10:38-42 ~

The word of God tells us that the fullness of God dwelt in Jesus. (Colossians 1:15-19) In other words He was and is God in human likeness. He is God and as such is our representative of God and what he is like. Jesus has left this earth and now sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. (Acts 2:33 and Romans 8:34) Yet, He has not left us alone down here. He and the Father have sent us their Holy Spirit, he prays for us continuously, He has given us His Armor and through His apostles instructed us how to use it.( Ephesians 6:10-20) Above all, he has preserved His holy word and protected and led His children throughout the centuries and as a result given us His holy word through which we like Mary can sit at the feet of God and Jesus Christ who he sent and learn of Him and Truth. My friend do you spend time with God in His word? Do you meditate on His truth day and night? Are you a doer of His word or do you just read it but never listen? My prayer is that each of us would learn to cherish the word of God like Mary and the psalmist who said “11Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.” (Psalms 119:11)

Let me leave you with this thought:

In Psalms 1 we find a comparison of the righteous and the wicked. It states that the righteous man “does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers.” So where do you sit? At the feet of Jesus soaking up His word or in the congregation of the wicked who are traveling down the broad highway to Hell.

"Word Of God Speak"

Lyrics by: Mercy Me

From the record: "Spoken For", Track #7.

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

[CHORUS]
Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
Your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak

I'm finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice

[REPEAT CHORUS 2x]

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay
